Darkfall Trading 101

Darkfall Trading 101

Agon is a dynamic world, and its NPC inhabitants are the main source for gold and advanced crafting materials. When a player needs a specific item he has 2 options, kill the monster that drops it or buy it. Here are some useful tips for the second option.

  • Different materials drop from different monsters, and players might be looking for materials that are not available close to where they live. Players tend to farm the monsters closer to their bindspot, so if you know of someone that lives close to that monster dropping your requested material, ask him if he has some to trade with you.
  • Be sure to regularly scout the trade channel and trading forums (available for EU and NA) for players advertising their goods. Patience is the key to a better price, so if you think that a seller is expensive, you can /tell him and ask for a better price, or wait for a better deal to come around.
  • Keep an eye on player vendors as you pass by villages. With some villages hosting up to 6 or 7 different player vendors, chances are you’ll find something that you have been looking for. If you want to buy in bulk from a vendor, contact the owner and ask him to come and protect you while you buy his goods, he will usually respond positively. If you are spending a lot of money and have the goods on you, it will be safer to recall from inside his house. Community sites like dfvendors.com are a great help with vendors, providing player-updated lists of the vendors’ contents.
  • Always maintain contact with players that hunt monsters for profit. If you bought 100 Elemental Cinder from someone a week ago, chances are next week he will have more, since he was successful in selling his previous stock. When you need more of that cinder send him a tell first, repeat customers are always welcome and usually get the better deals.
  • Bulk means business in real life, and that rule fits perfectly in Darkfall. Buy in bulk, ask your friends if they need some from that item you need, collect the orders and then head out to the trade channel and check out the available deals. If you want to buy a lot of something, you are more likely to get a better price for it.
  • Watch your reputation, a scammer in Darkfall will get ostracized by other traders, and it might take a long time to clear your name. Always trade fairly, and never cancel a deal at the last moment, as this might put you on someone’s black list.

There are players that have made a name for themselves by just becoming one of Darkfall’s elite traders. They became very rich, and they can supply almost everything one could ask, crafting materials, boats, weapons, siege equipment, you name it. If you want to become one of them, or just want to make your trading experience smoother, these tips will definitely help.

Some others tips you should consider is

*When buying in bulk with new people it is safer to spilt your order up
*If you party up to trade with someone be aware of their name and HP, default names and low HP are danger signs
*Never trade in robes, be prepared for a fight even in a NPC city
*Always /bind a key to the partyleave command

For big trades trade on your mount with your bank open, that way if anything unexpected happens you can bank your merchandise without being pulled away from the bank by come hither.

Also, if you are trading bulk items, keep it in a bag, for obvious reasons. You don’t want to be dragging over a load of items when you have pkers hacking into you because chances are you will fumble and lose your shit and cry.

On that note, I have never been trade ganked and I buy and sell nearly everyday, just take precautions and be careful who you trade with.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the vendors, sold the things they had bought for a higher price?
Checking the local vendors for things they have bought from other players would be a nice addition.
