Development Update March 24th
We’re playing catch-up at the moment at Aventurine. The patch we were supposed to launch today is not passing final testing yet, bugs keep surfacing and we were forced to abandon our plans for putting it out this week. We’ll need a couple of days of further testing to make sure everything is right. We apologize for this further delay, we’ve been focusing all our efforts on this patch and it’s very disappointing for us as well that it’s not ready yet.
The developers really need to focus on the patch issues right now and not wanting to take their attention off of them, we decided to postpone the Sprint meeting until after the patch is ready. The regular activity report will have to be posted on Monday instead of tomorrow Friday because of this. We’ll need to collect all the information that was going to be in the sprint meeting piece by piece from the individual presenters, and right now things are pretty hectic around here.
In the meanwhile we were checking out a test of the new lighting system that was going to be presented to us during the Sprint meeting. What you see in the screenshots and the video are taken from the worldbuilder and are not presentation quality. They would look much better taken from the actual game. This is a work in progress, a first step in the lighting system upgrades but we thought it would be cool to show. You can watch the video here. We also have an amazing environmental sounds video. It’s made for a development presentation, so it’s very technical, but we’ll edit it or reshoot it, and show to you early next week.
Again we’d like to apologize for the delay, we appreciate your patience while we’re doing everything we can to address the patch issues.

Looks excellent! I’m disappointed the patch has to get delayed again, but I understand that you’d rather push one out that has as minimum a change of bugs as possible.

BTW, do you look into a suggestion part of the official Darkfall forum? There is a lot of interesting ideas there – many of which are much desired by the entire community.
Not that surprising anymore. Just tell us that the patch will come within a decennium and people will instead be happy just if it arrives this year. Problem solved.

Remember Aventurine: This new lighting system must be forced for all people, otherwise most of us will disable it because of more FPS and less places to hide and be ambushed.
how much fps we will lose from this and how much more load lags we get?
no idea why you concentrate on useless fluff, new graffics wont fill your server if you didnt notice it we need content
Though the designers dont work on new content but they work on graphics, so they cant do much atm.

i play with 300+ fps ..i doesnt matter nice read ..but we need the “CONTENT” patches..darkfall gamer arent realy interest into “it looks better”
we need weapons..more pve…more economic, clanbanners on armor and weapons.. and clancity building banners… and a stabil server thats all
Seriously… no matter what AV does with graphics or sounds, I will disable them to give me the best fps and best advantage when it comes to winning fights…as will everyone else.
This is why these fluff patches are not making the game grow.
We need more fun sandboxy content stuff. More items. More crafting materials. More mobs. More NPC’s to make our cities feel ‘alive’ sort of like what you did with the critters running around towns. More prizes in chaos chests + traps as well. All around stat gain increases <– important!! Wandering mobs. More mount types. More weapons and armor styles. Dyes. etc.
Great, while they’re at it maybe they also optimize they’re graphics engine so we don’t all have to buy NASA computers to enjoy sieges.
even with my shitty computer, that got like 10 fps at a siege, I still enjoyed them. Regardless of the fact I couldn’t actually tell what was going on.

Id hope the game needs more than a 486 to run although i guess a tricked out DooM engine “could” do it.
So… Lord of the Rings Online is a free mmo, yet they manage to release a new content patch featuring 100 new quests, a whole new area, updated gui, new crafting quests, class balances and bug fixes.
All in all, that’s pretty pathetic that a game that isn’t free (Darkfall) can’t even release a basic patch after 2 months of development… and a free mmo is releasing a big content patch.
I can’t even remember the last time Darkfall had a content patch that featured half of what this free mmo is releasing… pretty sad.

Its very nice that you realeased a vid of the lighting system, even if it was only from the world builder. I really do hope that you will force atlest some sort of shadowing on, otherwise very few will actually use the shadows and most of the work have been in vain.

What relevance it has to ingame balancing issues and whether the majority will ever see these effects is another matter however.
Cool video but darkness should be way darker. Than add something like touches or something like that. That would make awesome tactics for moving forces and prob close to 0 coding since touches already exist ingame (on walls ofc) and changing darkness is just an option lol.
General fix to gama exploit: make a 15mins update timer and state why, so ppl cant change game every time it gets dark, and when its light its a bitch to have full gama.
Note: I was noticing the lighting that is ingame atm, and it prity SUCKS lol

But still better, i like it. Would be nice to see the whole game world shadowmapped – imitating global illumination, creating soft shadowing around objects and stuff and it would not take away performance since it will be static in any time of the day/night.
