Meditation System 101

Meditation System 101

As you all know, today’s patch will add the already announced meditation system to the game. Here is some basic information about the system.

In order to use the meditation system you need to purchase meditation points from your journal while being in game. You can buy up to a maximum of 100,000 points which are non-refundable. The gold is taken straight from your bank.

To set up skills to meditate on you can either use the in-game journal page or the out of game Darkfall External Web Interface Tool (D.E.W.I.T). Depending on your server you can access the tool from the following links: EU D.E.W.I.TNA D.E.W.I.T

On the meditation page in your journal, you can select the skill that you want to meditate on. Keep in mind that you must have already purchased the skill in game. You will be able to see how many meditation points a skill needs to get to 100 and if you start meditating on it you will also see how much time it will take. The meditation system is subject to diminishing returns.

You can abort meditation at any point without losing any of the skill points you have already gained. Meditation will stop if you run out of meditation points, if you disable it yourself, if the skill you are meditating on reaches 100 or if your subscription runs out. Meditation will also pause when you log in the game and resume when you log back out. There is also an Auto meditation feature that will randomly select another skill once your current one gets to 100.

Any changes you do to your meditation options needs to be verified by pressing the Save Changes button. If you do not save your changes the meditation options will revert to their last saved state.

As we have already announced, this is the first implementation of the system. Additional skills will be added at regular intervals and the mechanics might change based on player feedback and our own observations.

As soon as the patch is applied a help section entry will be added that will offer more detailed information on the feature.

  1. Sounds good! Can’t wait to try it.

  2. Sounds great. Looking forward to using it.

A technical/grammatical note: you shouldn’t use the word ‘new’ (as in ‘Meditation is a new feature’) in your help section. Eventually it won’t be new anymore, I promise :)

  3. Alex Olszowy says:

Im so happy your doing this. It’s going to be nice to turn on my comp and have skills up and not worry about it.

  4. Noak Kaanam says:

sounds really great. also some good fixes on the patch, keep it up!

  5. Nice work Aventurine, I’m eager to check this system out!

    Kasmos

  6. i can’t wait either, i just came back after 8 months, i might even re-sub my other 2 accounts

  7. Chris Evans says:

Cool now some stuff that shouldn’t of been in at launch please :)

  8. I might just have to subscribe again for a few months.

  9. I think this new feature will make more people want to start playing, and will make it a lot less frustrating for players who are just starting out. It can be quite tedious to raise skills when you first start out and get killed a lot by people who’ve been playing for awhile. I’m 18 days into the game, and this new feature will definitely keep me from cancelling my subscription. :)

  10. What this nifty little system will do is allowing you to grin on mobs with your sword in order to raise your magic skills instead of repeatedly casting the desired magic at said mob. Since just LMB’ing away at everything in front of you is a lot less tedious than the downtime-ridden cast-your-ass-off approach and considering it’s finally possible to couple the nonsensical magic grind with something slightly more useful and flexible (grinding gold, durrr), this is a /SLIGHT/ improvement to how it used to be.

A functionality which should’ve been in the game at launch and is – regarding “The Grind” – not enough by far — but at least it is /something/.

A thing that DEFINITELY still needs to make it into this system is the ability to meditate for your stats.

  11. Robin Miller says:

Holy shit, this stuff is expensive!

For me to level Necro to 100 from 37.8 costs $191, 000 gold!

  12. I have been playing Darkfall since EU1 launch.

I am officially UN-subscribing after this horrible horrible patch.
This is by far the worst implementation I have ever seen, I think some developer at AV was smoking pipe. It will take me 100k to get water magic from 75-100.

Are the Devs high? Wait…your telling me, I do not get INT gains, Spell Gains,Intensifies,Archmage….. but I have to fork up !!!100K!!! to max the school?

You said this will decrease AFK macroing. HAHAHAHA. This promotes it. How is a new player supposed to choose this system over macroing?

I dont even care about skilling my character, Its all the new characters that I wont be able to kill cuz they will rage quit after they see such a BS system.

    Constructive Words of Advice:

Meditation should Increase Stats, Intensifies, Spells. At the same rate as AFK Macroing and the Same cost.

Thievery should be implemented to Steal the regs off of AFK macroers. GEAR IS NOT SPECIAL ANYWAYS. I have 100 mounts 100 Infernal gear bags, 100 Justice Bringers. Thievery is no big deal.

    then…MACROING IS GONE!!!!

“this is the first implementation of the system. Additional skills will be added at regular intervals and the mechanics might change based on player feedback and our own observations.”

What part of this do you not understand?

  13. Keith Yates says:

Offline skilling of apparently just the magic trees is a bad move as it means there is no risk involved for people using it to level magic where the rest of us had to risk getting jumped and losing reagents to level.

  14. Andrew Hope says:

Nice try but new players can’t afford it… I believe you should reduce the time it takes to level melee/archery skills by alot.

  15. I thought the main idea was to help noobies catch up? Or at the very least to reduce macroing.

At about 150K gold to take lesser magic from 1 – 100 I just don’t understand how a noobie could afford to use meditation even a litte. If they did they wouldn’t have any money at all to use during their play time.

The only people I see this helping are the vets with millions in the bank who just can’t be bothered finishing off all their schools the normal way

  19. Jeff Terry says:

Yea let’s hope AV notices the complaints and makes it free. YES MEDITATION SHOULD BE FREE!

The vets will continue to macro because they can, the noobs will keep afk swimming in npc cities because they CANNOT AFFORD to fork over the money to pay for meditation skill gains.

    It should absolutely be free.

    • Jeff Terry says:

But I will add that this is a good first step. If you’ve been playing a few months, you can afford to meditate. I’m currently meditating Spell Chanting because we know how bad the grind is there.

But still, vets will keep macroing. AV should either implement an AFK macro reporting feature or make meditating cheaper for new players.

I’ve reported tons of afk macroers and the GM’s always say “I will look into it…” but nothing happens.

    • Adam Wolter says:

The offline mediation is a service and thus should cost something. I am glad DFO doesn’t charge REAL money for the feature, but instead charges hard earned in game currency.

  20. Yep. I was pumped about this new system. However, I’m feeling let down now. How much time is spent testing or thinking through these decisions? More importantly… who do they have making these decisions? Haha.

I don’t agree with it being free. If nothing else, make it the same cost as the amount of reagents it would take to level the school. What you might pay to buy the regs from the merchant. And perhaps like half the stat gains as normal. And half the durable/mana efficiency/intensify etc gains. To make it more fair for those who actually play to gain these skills.

  21. I think this system is in a primitive state but has a lot of potential. For people complaining about the cost, would you prefer it cost 10k to get to 100? The whole point of this system being more expensive is BECAUSE you don’t risk losing anything. Okay, so using a macro will give you skill gains, stat gains, and passive magic skill increases but:

    1) It is risky.
    2) Umm…it’s illegal?

I could deal with the cost coming down a bit but I don’t think it should have stat or skill gains other then the school itself.

Honestly, my entire skill/stat/class(less)/combat system would be entirely different but for the course that Darkfall is on, this system is a step in the right direction.

    • >> For people complaining about the cost, would you prefer it cost 10k to get to 100?

      yes.

      >> The whole point of this system being more expensive is BECAUSE you don’t risk losing anything.

It’s not about the risk it’s about the awful grind. I really absolutely do not care about risk vs. reward; as long as the grind in it’s current form is dominating the game there isn’t any reward in the game to begin with.

  22. Honestly this reminds me of an argument about Piracy- that some people do it over purchasing a product because it can be outright better pirated. Why would someone that’s AFK macroing take this over that? It really needs to be a competitive service otherwise it’s not going to fix much.
