Patch Update

With the majority of the developers working on the patch getting right and going out tomorrow or Wednesday, we unfortunately couldn’t get enough info for a proper activity report today as promised. The sprint meeting will happen directly after the patch so it’s better to wait until then to post something with more substance. We appreciate the patience.  In the meanwhile we saw there was some confusion as to what goes into the upcoming patch so we’ll post here the main features included in it:

There are several alignment changes happening with this new patch: Chat restrictions are going in, so if you’re red you can’t use racial chat, you can use chaos chat instead with the rest of the red players. Also there is no alignment gain anymore for killing reds or enemies. If you want to improve your alignment, you have to visit a Chaos Church and pray up to once per day. Negative spells like debuffs and more, will now turn you rogue.

Attributes are added to meditation now and you can increase these while you’re offline using the meditation system. New foods are also on the way to buff your base attributes.

Edit: Crafting and melee skill skill-up rates will be increased.

Some of the ingredients for the attribute consumables will come from the sea. Fishing equipment can be installed on ships and the catch will depend on the size of the ship used. In order to protect your ships from swimmers, new depth charge -like counter-measures will be available to the ship’s captain.

The tournament weapons made by the players are going in with the patch, and new sounds and new effects will be added to various weapons.

Trial accounts will get some limitations with this patch to keep trial players from possibly interfering with the server’s native population.

Finally there are several bug fixes going in which address some of the game’s outstanding bugs.

      I just woke up! server arent back up yet and it has been 5h30 hours since they went down. Did we get an update on the next failed attempt to bring them back up yet ?

    But I’m confused, what about the crafting skill gains and the remainder of the skill gains, as well as ship captain ability on ships?

    Are these put on hold?

    FIIIISHIIIIING BOOOOATS! Woooo, I can’t WAIT to try them out. I know that looks extremely sarcastic, but I have been waiting patiently for them :)

    Let’s hope the chaos church thing works out well, and that depth charges don’t make it *impossible* to cap boats!

  6. Sounds good all of it, apart from chat restrictions. Will this mean race alliance chat AND race chat? It seems restricting player interaction is a horrible idea. Especially considering most of the active chatters that help newbies out (ie vets) are red, and the chats struggle to even be alive late nights.

    No news on the increased droprate on items (books, scrolls etc).
    Hopefully thats in the detail of the patchnotes.

    Overall I’m looking forward to this patch, the game is moving away from being an Arena (ironically) and moving towards being an immersive world, however I think the dev team should clarify their overall vision for the game, its been a long time since they have said anything that tells us where they want the game to go, or is there no real vision for the game anymore, just a focus on minor changes?

    like 30 to 31 will be same as 80 to 81?
    or like 30 to 40 80 to 81?

    will it rais it up to 100?

  17. MYSTERIOUS ESSENCE – We were told we would be given the rewards for these ages ago. Anything on this?

  18. The news section of the darkfall website hasn’t had an update since 2009, you need to fix it so it shows blog posts or remove it since it may make the game seem dead to would be players.

    An unclear statement and the patch sounds like quite a mess to be honest.

    Restricting chat channels with population already low is clearly a bad idea as is the new church system.
    No player is going to pay to go back to blue when there is nothing to be gained by doing so and npc tower towns will be even emptier than they are now.
    Good about debuffs turning you rogue but this was asked for like 18 months ago and now that there are no wars in npc towns its really a pointless change closing the stable door long after the horse has bolted.

    Gained attributes through meditation will no doubt be prohibitvely expensive and gaining skills and attributes while being logged out of the game and without doing the necessary things to learn how to play the game while you train is a bad idea on principle.

    Why is logging into the game and playing it no longer the best way to train skills and attributes in Darkfall?

      edit* the reson I asked for the attributes to take so many medy points is because u shouldnt be able to get those up quikly, they shouldnt be able to meditate anyway in my opinion.anyway as for the rest of the patch ideas, they look fine. you really should stop adding things to meditation tho or ur guna start having more ppl offline then online.

    i hope the buff food is only for meele guys/girls …because they cant buff themselfs… i hope its blocked for mages they have the magic buffs…

    reduce the buffs is better ..than increase the mass of buffs..we saw it in WoW..that was not the right way

    buff food for meele guys + a bonus when they use Stamina/or Health pots

    only magic buffs for mages

    and all is good

    • so you mean food should only do melee dmg bonus or str bonus ? because thats about all there would be if those was not meant for magic users…and why not just do magic your self too as there aint any warrior / mage classes like in wow so anyone and every one can learn buffs …its all about wanting to get them

      The reason meditation is good (IMO) is because it helps demote macroing, which is so widely used it disgusts me…

      Meditation also helps those that are new to the game to hopefully help clear the gap to those vets who have played since day 1…

      If you haven’t noticed… DF is not an easy game to get into for noobs. No one likes getting decimated by vets. I am sure vets love it, and that’s what makes them want to keep playing but overall they need subscriptions and if that means they need to take drastic measures like adding meditation then so be it.

      If you would get your head out of the pineapple you would realize how frustrating it is for new people to play. The learning curve is a 180 from any MMO that anyone has played.. Add the fact that they need to grind for a year + to be any good. Then its just disheartening.
