Open Letter From The Developers

Razorwax AS was founded in July 2000 by Claus Grovdal (design), Ricki Sickenger (tools/game logic programming) and Kjetil Helland (3D engine programming). In addition Erik Sperling Johansen joined the team fulltime as a server programmer, and Henning Ludvigsen joined part time as art director.

Our vision was from day one to create "amazingly addictive online roleplaying games", using our 100% inhouse developed 3D/client, server and tools technology.

We received the initial seed-capital funding from Intermedia Invest AS. This was going to cover our first 6 months of development... then we planned on getting more funding from traditional investment companies.

Its been 12 months and counting. Intermedia Invest is still paying our salaries (and for that we are eternally grateful). We are on a great pace to finish our first project - Darkfall - Although it would seem we need a team of around 20 fulltime people, working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, and we are still just 4 people fulltime, and one part time art director, working hard on our first game.

So now what? Whats next for Darkfall?
We are going to release a stripped down version of the game, and see what you, our potential future players, think about it. There will be some gameplay in the first release (run around and shoot fireballs at other people, and thats about it), it will probably be full of bugs, it will only work on a GeForce or ATI Radeon setup, on a pretty buffed up PC.

But it will be free - it will be out in a few weeks - and we will be adding new features on a weekly basis.

Where do we go from there?
We just want to get our game out there, in its pre-alpha state, and take it from there. With a few months of testing we will try another round of wrestling with investors and talk to a few publishers. It all depends on how fast we can make the game fun to play (we don't plan on rushing anything), and if anyone even likes it.

The first version is out late August, and it will be invited friends only. Then we will fix the worst bugs, add as many new features as we can, and hopefully have a new version out by late September this year.

If you want to give our game a shot, we will add some pre-alpha sign up forms in a few days. We dont have a whole lot of server capacity just yet, so we cant send out too many clients, but we will try to get as many interested players in as possible.

At any rate, this is pretty exciting times for us. We have been sitting in our cave for 12 months, working on our secret game, and now we are about to get our feet wet.

And who knows, maybe we eventually get to finish Darkfall as described in our FAQ.
